My Style

Every therapist works to their own style, even when they received the same education. Driven by sports and goals, my treatment is the same, goal orientated. Here you can find out a bit more of how I work.

At school I was assessed with more pattern recognition, rather than maths and spelling, being directed to become a Motor Mechanic.  This pattern recognition is better suited to assessing muscle dysfunction, postural deviations and understanding the underlying causes of this dysfunction and how it causes pain in the body. My assessment involves both visual assessment and palpation to know where to focus my treatments to resolve an injury or resolve pain. I use the training I received in the Myofascial Technique course, which followed the Ida Rolf 10 Session technique, for restoring balance in the body.

Problem solving

I’m curious why something hurts - using analysis: postural, muscle testing, flexibility assessment – my goal when working is to find the cause of the problem. Whether it’s just a 30 minute session or a full hour, while I’m treating your muscles and fascia, I’m assessing and formulating a plan to fix your imbalances that cause pain.

Strong technique

For me there is a difference between working deep and hard. Working too hard where the body stiffens against the pain means I can’t work deep into the fascia. I aim into the deeper layers of the muscles and fascia, I do this with care to allow the muscles and fascia the time to relax and allow me get to the areas which are causing you problems.

Corrective focus

Whether you come because of sports or not, my treatments are focused on doing corrective work. Pain or discomfort usually needs something to change to stop the pain returning. Through observation and questioning, I aim to understand what could be the cause. Even down to advising to look at the cleats on your shoes, if you're a cyclist, for instance.

Sport Focus

For sports people, I draw on my knowledge as an ultra-distance runner and cyclist to understand the impact of training and how sports massage can aid the person with their training, depending on what phase of their plan they are doing. As a cycling coach, I understand the blocks of coaching used to prepare athletes for events and how my treatments should change depending on where they are in their plan.
